Frank Sander is a documentary film maker, founder, creator and builder of the Little Knife Sanctuary Artists Residency in rural Duluth Township. The residency’s mission is to bring people together to create in a natural environment and to preserve the land for posterity.
Frank Sander studied fine art and architecture in Germany, and emigrated to Minnesota in 1979, first settling in Minneapolis and then Duluth. For the past 12 years he has made a home along the northshore of Lake Superior in Knife River with his partner Patricia Canelake. He created The Little Knife Sanctuary Artist Residency whose mission is to bring people together to create in nature. The sanctuary will be preserved as a land trust for future generations of artists, filmmakers and writers.
